Sailing is one of the island's favorite past times and has been a part of the
island's culture since it was first inhabited. In the olden days, most of the
transportation and commerce was done by sail boat. A trip to Belize City (21
miles away) could take up to eight hours each way. Most of the sailboats used,
and even some that are currently in use, were hand-built by the island's
traditional boat-building families such as the Alaminas and the Youngs. The
Alamina and Young families are still prevalent on the island today, but most of
the younger generation have chosen to pursue other fields of work.

Snorkel the Reef by Sailboat
There are several tour operators such as Raggamuffin Tours and Johnny's
Tours that specialize in sailboat snorkeling trips. Feel free to visit the Hol Chan
Marine Reserve or the local reef by sailboat, or just hop over to the local reef to
swim with the shark sand stingrays. Go slow and enjoy!
3 Day Island Hopping to Placencia
Raggamuffin Tours also offers a three-day island hopping sailing trip from
Caye Caulker to Placencia weekly for $250 U.S. per person. Sail. Snorkel. Fish.
Eat. Camp. Sail. Trip includes meals and camping equipment. You can also
book the same trip in reverse from Placencia to Caye Caulker on the return
voyage.
Sunset Sailing Cruises
Enjoy one of our lovely sunsets on a sailboat heading to nowhere. This sailing
trip departs at 5:30 p.m., heads through the Split to the back of the island, and
